Love the way you embrace these vastly different perspectives with such tenderness, openness and sincerity. Thank you so much for your thoughtful interviews and exposure to other cultures within the diaspora. We should all be more open and willing to connect with and understand each other.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read, listen, and comment. Your kind words have really touched me. I'm really trying to "do right" by all of us, and your sentiments mean the world to me.

I love everything about this project Christine! This is an excellent piece and I can't wait to listen to your audio and will be sure to circle back with thoughts. (I'm in Mexico City as I write this!)

really enjoyed reading and listening. i'm a Black woman from South Africa living in Germany, considering Portugal and i am careful not to be seduced by the idea of 'i'll see more people like me' without considering various factors. these voices do so much for me. thank you, again

Thank you so much for sharing this incredibly researched and beautifully nuanced piece! As a Black American woman living in Denmark for the past 8 years, I relate to so many of the dense factors that pushed me to migrate out of the U.S.

I am also the co-founder of Black Babes Abroad, a Substack and global community of Black women and femmes who are looking to migrate abroad and those who have already landed abroad. If you are ever looking for more women to connect to around these topics, we'd be happy to connect 🫶🏾

Fascinating article and interview, Christine! As a Black Brit who relocated to rural Portugal in my tween years, I echo many of the sentiments of the women interviewed. I've shared your article with my Lusoafricana community here to hopefully get you more voices 🙏🏿Thank you for doing this work!

Bravo Christine. Can't wait to list to the audio. BTW, will this be released on the podcast? I'm trying to figure out how to listen on my phone.

Christine Job's avatar

Thanks, Lori! I don't know why the audio isn't working for you. Maybe try listening to it on a desktop? I don't think I'll release this preview on the podcast. I'll probably wait until the entire project is finished and then release it to the feed. Let me know if you're still having trouble, and I can email you a different link.

Christine, this is brilliant! You are absolutely the person to bring this inquiry to the forefront, and I couldn’t be more proud to watch you do so with such clarity and care. I’m genuinely excited to see what you bring to bear during your time in Portugal. This already feels like the beginning of something much larger and much-needed.

Thank you so much for reading, listening, and commenting. I appreciate you checking it out. I feel very strongly about the ethnographic work I'm attempting, so relationship-building just feels "right". Although some may find this to be tedious, I believe it is not only necessary, but has been and (hopefully) will be fruitful as my work progresses.
